Improve search engine ranking

So you have a newborn website and its all geared up looking lovely and ready to make sales. You create some links on the internet for your new website, let the search engines know about it and you sit back and wait for the money to roll in…but there are no sales! Sound familiar? You are going to need to develop a large volume of targeted visitors on a daily basis and visitors to frequent your site in their thousands, so is there a way to achieve this for free?

Yes there is and it’s called building free backlinks.

If your a newbie to SEO (search engine optimization) you may be questioning what a backlink is and why they are important. Free backlinks are now so crucial to getting your website showing in the first page of a search engine that they have become some of the main building blocks to a good SEO line of attack.

Free backlinks are links that are directed towards your website, they are sometimes called inbound links. The volume of free backlinks to your website is an signal of the popularity or worth of that website. Free Backlinks are especially critical for search engines because some, particularly Google will give more credit to websites that have a good number of quality backlinks and thus believe those sites more relevant for a precise search query and therefore resulting in a higher page ranking.

When a search engine calculates the relevance of a website in relation to a keyword or search query they consider the quantity of backlinks that is has, so it’s important to focus specifically on the quality of backlinks to your website. A search engine will consider the content of your site to determine the quality of a link. When inbound links to your site are derived from other sites that have content relevant to your site then these backlinks will be considered more relevant and are likely to impact your webpage ranking significantly in a positive way.

Search engines require all websites to have a level playing field and they will look for natural links built up slowly over a period of time. It can be fairly easy to ply links on a web page to try and achieve a higher ranking. It’s possible to play around with the links on a site but it is a lot harder to persuade a search engine with external backlinks from other websites. This is another reason why backlinks are so highly incorporated into a search engines algorithm, to cut out the ‘cheaters’

Now the rules for calculating quality backlinks has been tightened up due to crooked webmasters trying to accomplish backlinks by misleading or sneaky tactics. Such practises include hidden links or automatically generated webpages whose sole object is to give inbound links to websites. Such websites are referred to as link farms and are now disregarded by search engines and may even be banned entirely by search engines.

Of course another rationale for the pursuit of valuable backlinks is to get people visiting your webpages. Don’t fall into the trap of thinking that you can just create a website and be expecting people will find it without getting the word out there about your site and what it can offer. Creating quality, natural free backlinks is exceedingly significant to Search Engine Optimization and so it should be very prominent on your priority list in your SEO Plan.
