Simple Decorating For Your Guest Room

June 9th, 2010

If company were to come calling today, would your guest room be ready to receive them? Find out how to decorate this important room in your home in a simple, fashionable way. It will be ready and waiting for all of your guests to visit in comfort and style.

Since your guests will likely only need their own room when they spend the night, you’re going to need quality linens. Purchase three or four towel sets in a neutral color and store them in the guest room closet. Buy two high-thread count sheet sets and two soft, comfortable bedding quilts. Also make sure to get four pillows that are well filled but not overly hard. All of the bedding should also be in a neutral color scheme.

For comfort and convenience make sure to include these items in your spare room as well. On the nightstand there should be a reading lamp and an alarm clock. Set the clock to the correct time and check that the lamp is plugged in and working before your guests go to bed. Install a mirror in the room to assist them with getting dressed and provide space for their clothing and luggage. A large dresser and clear room in the closet is a good idea.

The style of furniture should be solid and understated. Natural wood furniture is an excellent choice. Purchase a set including two nightstands and a bed as large as the room can handle. Sleigh beds are a good bet for an attractive style that isn’t too bold. Stay away from bright colors, brass or gold accents and anything that will date the furniture.

Stick with subtle art or landscape photos on the walls. Decide on a theme for the room if you like, such as a favorite sport, vacation spot or simply a color scheme. Large prints work well on wide walls and smaller pictures can be arranged together for an attractive look. Window coverings need to be room darkening for your guests, but also should be made to pull out of the way for plenty of natural light.

Pile extra blankets on the foot of the Sleigh bed and put the extra pillows in the closet (if they don’t fit on the bed). Keep clutter off of the furniture and the floor and out of the closet if possible. If you do store your things in the guest room, have them neatly packed away in boxes so there is a sense of organization.

Follow these simple steps to setting up and decorating your guest room and get rid of any worry about having company. They will feel right at home.
