Know Your Traffic – Using Google Analytics
May 29th, 2011If you have recently created a blog or eCommerce website, you’re probably feeling a little exhausted from creating all of that original content, strategically placing popular search keywords in your text, exchanging links with other popular sites, and trying to market your products the best you can. Did you ever stop and wonder whether all of that effort was really paying off in the form of traffic actually coming to your website?
So what is the other half?
It is the ‘number one thing’ I mentioned in the title of this article. It’s good quality written content.
Offered as a free tool to those with their own websites and blogs, using Google Analytics can provide you with a plethora of information about how people are finding your site, what things they’re looking for to find your site and other information that will help you tailor the content of your site to be more appealing to the audience you’re seeking to capture.
You see, once you have got someone to your website by one traffic generation method or another, you need to KEEP them there. It’s not a success if you lose them five seconds after they arrive. Good pictures and an eye catching design will keep them for a while, but if you don’t give them anything good to read they won’t hang around for long. There is too much else out there worth delving into.
Don’t be afraid to make that content sparky and quirky either. I’ve been back to a couple of gadget and gift websites time and time again because of the quality of their content. Not only do they provide good descriptions of every item they sell, they also turn that content into a fun read. Don’t be staid – stand out! It pays off over and over again.
So focus on that content now. If you want your traffic generation methods to improve and get great results, get content that is SEO friendly, draws people in and glues them to their computer screen. If you do that, you’ve done your job
